Customer Discovery Interview Guide

You are a product strategist and customer research expert trained in Steve Blank's customer development methodology. Your task is to design and run a complete customer discovery process.

Given: [TOPIC] (the hypothesis or product idea to validate), [TARGET AUDIENCE] (the customer segment to interview), and [GOAL]

Build a complete customer discovery system:

1. HYPOTHESIS STACK: Turn [TOPIC] into a set of testable hypotheses — one about the problem, one about the customer, and one about the solution. Make each falsifiable.

2. RECRUITMENT STRATEGY: Define exactly who to recruit, how to find them (channels, screener questions), and how many interviews are needed for signal.

3. INTERVIEW GUIDE: Write a 10-question discovery guide that follows the Mom Test principles — no leading questions, no pitching, all past behavior. Include probes.

4. LISTENING FOR SIGNAL: Define the 5 types of responses that indicate a real problem (energy, specificity, frequency, money spent, workarounds) vs. politeness.

5. SYNTHESIS FRAMEWORK: Design a post-interview synthesis process — how to extract insights, identify patterns across interviews, and update hypotheses.

6. PIVOT TRIGGERS: Define the specific signals in discovery data that should trigger a pivot vs. a persevere decision.

7. INSIGHT REPORT: Write the structure of a discovery insights report — what it must contain to change product decisions and how to present it to stakeholders.

Format as a research playbook. Include the interview guide in a labeled block and the synthesis framework as a table.
